Youth Accommodation Hanenbos
What and for whom?
Hanenbos is an accommodation centre for young people surrounded by nature.
Youth groups and schools are the primary target groups, but also other organisations are welcome here, namely:
- youth work initiatives
- schools
- medical-pedagogical institutions
- institutions for special youth care
- students' associations
- the sports sector
- foreign youth groups
- social-cultural organisations
- amateur arts
- services from municipalities
- families
- of the business world.
The emphasis is on multi-day stays (with overnight stay) in groups.
The accommodation and education centre is situated in central Flemish Brabant and close to Brussels (15 km). Hanenbos is a nice starting point for excursions to Pajottenland and the Green Belt. It is situated in a quiet place surrounded by a 15-hectare forest. In addition, Hanenbos adjoins the provincial domain of Huizingen which hosts many recreation opportunities.
TopAccommodation
Hanenbos has a capacity of 110 beds (90 shared and 20 in an apartment). All floors are reachable by an elevator.
Hanenbos has the following facilities:
- 3 large halls (9 x 10 m, 8 x 13 m, 8 x 15 m)
- 3 small halls (7 x 4 m, 7 x 5 m, 7 x 7 m)
- 10 one-person rooms
- 10 twin rooms with individual beds
- 2 twin rooms with bunk beds
- 8 four-bed rooms with bunk beds
- 4 six-bed rooms with bunk beds
- 4 rooms/ 6 beds are suitable for guests using wheelchairs
- 1 restaurant (8 x 14 m, for 108 persons at the same time)
- 1 bar and relaxation room (8 x 12 m)
- 1 apartment for groups:
- autonomous compartment for 20 persons with a day hall (8 x 5 m)
- dining and kitchen room (8 x 5 m)
- sanitary and sleeping rooms(4 twin rooms and 2 six-bed rooms)
- a small meeting room (3 x 4 m)
- elevator, wireless internet access, diverse audio-visual material, sports and play material.
Nature and environmental education for young and old
Hanenbos adjoins a 15-hectare nature area and is therefor a nice starting point for nature and environmental education. You can go for a walk with a nature guide, examine soil animals, make plaster casts... TopSports and recreation
You can use the surrounding forest hosting a play zone, the Hanenbos path, a playing field and a hard surfaced play field. Our guests have free access to the provincial domain of Huizingen and to the recreational areas and free-of-charge attractions such as an adventure playground, aviaries and the zoo.
With costs and depending on the season, there are also a football field with athletics facilities, tennis courts, miniature golf, paddle boats, a tourist train and an open-air pool.
Reservations
- You call, mail or write to Hanenbos.
- You receive a reservation agreement from Hanenbos.
- You send this back to Hanenbos, completely filled in and signed, at the latest ten days after mailing date. By doing so, you take an option.
- Hanenbos confirms receipt of the reservation agreement to the responsible person of the organisation.
- Within one month after sending the reservation agreement, you transfer a down payment to the Belgian account number 091-0169913-95 (IBAN: BE76 0910 1699 1395, BIC: GKCC BE BB, Dexia Bank).
- If you want to change your reservation, you follow the reservation procedure anew

* week ends start at the earliest on Friday at 1600 hours (4 p.m.) and end on Saturday or Sunday at 1800 hours (6 p.m.).
** school days = week days with compulsory schooling. Optional holidays, regardless whether they form a short vacation period or a long week-end by bridging, are considered school days. Public holidays in the week are considered weekdays.
*** same-day visitors = stay without staying overnight during one, two or three fractions of the day.
Youth work initiatives that are recognised or subsidised by the Province of Flemish Brabant or by a Flemish Brabantian municipal administration may make their reservations three months earlier than stated in the table.
A stay with meals must be booked at the least 2 weeks beforehand.
- Multi-day full-board reservations less than 2 months before the stay receive a 20% discount on their total invoice price, if there are no other guests yet for the envisaged period.
- Umbrella organisations of the education sector that book a stay for their schools receive a 10% discount on their total invoice price.
- Regular guests who book at least 3 multi-day stays per calendar year at the same time receive a 10% discount on their total invoice price.
- Group education initiatives that lead to the four certificates recognised by the Flemish Community (animator, main animator, instructor and main instructor in youth organisations) organised for and by a youth work initiative subsidised by the Province of Flemish Brabant receive a 10% discount on their total invoice price.
- Children up to 3 years receive free meals.
Down payment
- For every reservation, a down payment has to be made. This down payment is assessed in relation to the size of the group and will be deducted from the invoice for the stay.
- Costs related to the stay can only be paid by money transfer to the bank account of Hanenbos.
- Foreign groups make the down payment on the specified day and the remaining amount one month before the stay.
- Same-day stays (less than 24 hours) must be paid before the given date.
- The down payment for the stay in the boarding school is:
- For assumed accommodation expenses of below 5,000 euros:
- at least 30% of the assumed accommodation expenses
- rounded up to the next tenner, with a minimum of 25 euros
- For assumed accommodation expenses of above 5,000 euros:
- at least 50% of the assumed accommodation expenses
- rounded up to the next tenner, with a minimum of 1,000 euros
- For assumed accommodation expenses of below 5,000 euros:
The down payment for same-day stays is 50% of the assumed accommodation expenses, rounded up to the next tenner with a minimum of 8 euros and a maximum of 300 euros.
Location
The location can be reached using public transport: Public transport takes you up to 1 km from Hanenbos (schedule see: www.b-rail.be and www.delijn.be)
By car: Take the E19 motorway and leave it at exit 20 Huizingen. Then you follow the sign posts.
